The symphony was composed in 1911.
Risorgimento Italiano is rich in musical ideas, which are sometimes unfortunately too short.
After the “Largo Grandioso” of the beginning we listen to an “Allegro Agitato” (minor key).
The “Largo Grandioso” again played in a different tonality is followed by a second “Allegro Agitato” (minor key).
After that we listen to the “Andante Sostenuto” during which you can note some soloist instruments: clarinet, short clarinet, soprano flügelhorn, cornet, trombone.
A new “Largo Grandioso” precedes the “Allegro Brillante” which reaches high and powerful pitches.
The part “Con Grazia” (major key) is softer and the piece finishes with another “Allegro Brillante” and with the short, dry chords of the “Presto Deciso”.
Anelli’s pieces are beautiful melodies typical of that period in Italy, to which he adds a personal touch and an unusual use of the terzina. Through his symphonies he created a particular form of ensemble music called “Anelli Style”.
