Rienzi, der Letzte der Tribunen (WWV 49) (Rienzi, the Last of the Tribunes), opera by Richard Wagner in five acts, libretto by the composer, written between July 1838 and November 1840. The story of the opera is inspired by the historical life of Cola di Rienzo (1313–1354), a Roman notary of the fourteenth century that in the middle years of the century in the city tried to restore the republic on the model of ancient Rome.
