score 11 pag.• version for Clarinet and Piano • This composition is an homage to the Lebanese Poet Kahlil Gibran (1883- 1931)• Description: This serenade, Kahlil, is an introspective journey into the Middle-Eastern culture through the lightness of the verses of Kahlil Gibran, Lebanese poet of the late nineteenth century. The choice of using the dark timbre of the clarinet was made to celebrate the sweetness and tenderness that I experienced while reading Gibran’s verses.The main theme of the composition is a cyclic theme, consisting of six notes, always repeated with the same intervals. The choice of Middle-Eastern harmonies and of arabic melodies (there is a frequent use of the minor second, a characterizing interval of the sacred Maronite Lebanese music) is accompanied by a natural harmonic interlayer to the world of Ravelian France of the early 1990s; augmented intervals and a harmonization of the whole tone scale give a character of pride and nobility to the piece •
