Renato Miani (1965) graduated in composition with D. Zanettovich at the Conservatoire in Udine (Italy). He later specialized in Trieste (Italy) with W. Rihm at the Mozarteum of Salzburg. He obtained a number of appreciations in both national and international competitions: 2nd prize at the Freeburg's (Switzerland) International Competition of Sacred Music, (1987); 1st prize at the Toulouse's (Spain) International Competition for Chorus Composition (1990 and 1992); 1st prize at the Vienna's Franz Schubert International Competition (1996); 1st prize at the Vienna's International Competition ³Wiener Sommer-Seminar für neue Musik² (1997); 3rd prize (1st and 2nd not awarded) at the National Competition Margola² of Orzinuovi (Brescia, 1999); 1st prize at the National Competition ³R. Toscano² of Pescara (Italy - 2000).
Selected for the Gaudeamus Prize, 1991, he has been also mentioned at the competitions of Rome's ³M. Zafred² (1990, single prize not awarded) at the competition for clarinet composition of Perugia (1991) and at the Vienna's "Modern Masters" (1993).
His compositions have been performed in a number of events both in Italy and abroad; among them: ³Franz Schubert² Festival (at the Vienna's Musikverein), Concert Season at the Wiener Konzerthaus, concerts of the Vienna's Technischen Universität, ³Gaudeamus Music-Week² of Amsterdam, concerts of the Museum Keramion di Frechen (Cologne); 1er Encuentro de musica contemporanea of Camaguey (Cuba),Sacred Music Festival of Freeburg, ³Akzente² at the Konzerthaus di Klagenfurt; 15 International Rewiew of Composers of Belgrade, Schumannsplitter at the Mozarteum of Salzburg, review "New Music of Europe and China" at La Fenice theatre of Venice; I, II, III, VI, VII e VIII reviews of Contemporary Music, Symphonic Season 2002/2003 of the Teatro Nuovo ³Giovanni da Udine², LXXVII Season Amici della Musica of Udine; opening of the 37-th International Competition ³C.A. Seghizzi² of Gorizia, Cividale's Mittelfest of Fruli, season concerts ³Fabula Mirifica² of Spoleto, reviews Singing and Music in Friuli from Middle Ages to Nowadays; 1st an 2nd International Culture Week of Tarcento, Homage to Amedeo Giacomini of Varno; all have been broadcasted by the RAI (Italian Radio and Television Broadcast) and a number of international stations.
He teaches composition at the Music Conservatoire ³J. Tomadini² of Udine and collaborates with the Udine's Faculty of Arts and Philosophy.
In 2006 he held a master grade at the Salzburg's Mozarteum.
