score 40 pages • The tradition of performing a number of "ballabili" during the course of the opera comes from a typically French custom. The Otello was completely revised by the author when setting up its
French première in the Opéra National in Paris on October 12th of 1894. On that occasion, Verdi composed the ballet during July of that year.
This ballet was the last of Verdi's compositions for the stage, after the ballets for Jerusalem, Les Vespres
siciliennes, Le Trouvère, Macbeth and Don Carlos.
