Score Deluxe 28 pag. • Composition dedicated to Kent Lee and the Hong Kong Wind Symphony • The request to write a piece in italian style immediately made me think about the two ouvertures for orchestra written by Franz Schubert and both called “im italianische Stile”. These are, in my opinion, not simply imitations of the rossinian style, but the synthesis of the viennese taste and the gay and sensual spirit of the italian soul, overflowing from the music of the “Maestro di Pesaro” (Rossini) and communicating happiness and good mood. It is to the rossinian model that I looked at to start the operation of amalgamating the R ossinian style with a more modern use of the harmony and my twenty-year-old experience as conductor and composer of music for wind ensembles was very useful for this purpose. The use of “concertante” of a section composed by four sets of percussion instruments gave me the hint to remold the shape of the italian Symphony Opera and to enrich the colors of the timbral palette of the classical formation of the symphonic band, referring also to different languages of our “italian musicality”, such as, for example, the music of Nino Rota.
