Presentation

World Première by the Grande Banda Rappresentativa of Trente (Italy) during the Midwest Clinic at Chicago in 1998 conducted by Philip Sparke and Marco Bazzoli. • The most famous episodes of Julius Caesar's life are described through the Music by Sergio Parisini in four pictures. Caesar's destiny is announced starting from the initial theme with its impressive and dramatic tones through a musical score that compounds sadness - through the use of the minor key - with intrepidity - indicated by the solemnity of the main melody. Immediately afterwards, in the Legion episode, the music depicts the efficiency of Rome's armed forces in the art of war using the blares of the trumpets and the other brass instruments, the unrelenting rhythm of the percussions, interpreting the typical character of the advancing military fanfare. The music then moves on into the Middle East with two stupendous musical images: the themes of Egypt and of Cleopatra, and then reaches the finale with the Triumph of Death where Caesar meets his doom by the hands of his conspirators. The dramatic stabs cut down Julius Caesar's dream and hand the myth of this great commander down to posterity.
