In Folk Style (Irish Song - Tzigane Suite)

Score 55 pag. • Work commissioned by the Civic Council Wind Orchestra of Milan • In Folk Style is a tribute to the spirit of popular music, by which people of every nation expresses the soul and the profound identity of their culture. The catching themes highlight all the parts of the Concert Band. The composition is structured in three movements according to the traditional tripartition (fast - slow - fast). Each of the individual movements treats differently some popular melodies that belong to different cultures and geographical areas. The Prelude (here not included; cat. N° WKY0018) ) opens with a large initial introduction in which a yddish melody is very freely elaborated. The second movement, Irish Song, is an Irish folk song. This melody is processed according to minimalistic processes resulting in several episodes that highlight the solo instruments of the wind orchestra and is designed as a real piece of chamber music. The third movement is a suite of motifs derived from the Balkan region as the author was able to listen in the cafés of Budapest and is entitled, indeed, Tzigane Suite. In this movement the solos alternate with choral sections where the sections explore steps of remarkable virtuosity.
