Maurizio Billi born in Rome in 1964, he finished his studies at the S. Cecilia Conservatoire of Rome and graduated in composition, choral music and chorus conduction, band orchestration and clarinet.
A pupil of Bruno Aprea and Nicola Samale, he graduated in orchestra conduction with full marks and got a degree in the specialization course of composition at the S. Cecilia's National Accademy under Franco Donatoni.
Graduated in letters at the Rome's La Sapienza University, he cooperates with several musical magazines and published with the Sellerio an essay about the symphonic and choral production of Goffredo Petrassi.
He was awarded a prize in several national and international composition contests: Urbino's 1991 National Composition Contest, first prize; Valentino Caracciolo 1992 Symphonic Composition National Prize, third prize; Corciano's 1993 Band Composition National Contest, first prize; special mention 1997; Third National Contest of Classic Composition for De Musica 2000 Soloist Instrument, first prize; Mario Zafred 1991 Orchestra composition Contest, honored mention; Livorno's Wind Instrument Composition Contest. Among a number of acknowledgements, he was awarded the sought-after European Personality Prize for the year 2000.
His published and registered works have been executed with great success in Italy and abroad and broadcast by the RAI. He is a member of the Wind European Music Asociation (WEMA for short), takes a composition and a band-conduction postgraduate course by the Umbra Musical Academy and is often invited in commissions of a number of both national and international execution and composition contests. He’s been a teacher in Musical Analysis for the two-year period of specialization at the Teramo’s G. Braga conservatoire.
Conductor of the State Police since 1992, he’s been working in the most important theaters, among which the Turin’s Royal Theater, the Carlo Felice of Genoa, the Massimo Bellini of Catania, the Greek Theater of Syracusa, the Florence’s Communal Theater, the G. Verdi of Trento, the Rome’s Opera House and the Rome’s Saint Cecilia Auditorium.
With the State Police’s Band he’s been engaged in a full activity of fostering and spreading the wind-instrument original music of the XX century and the contemporary one.
